A quorum being present, Chairman Joanne DiCamillo called the meeting to order at 4:03 P.M.

REPORTS
Clerk’s Report – The approval of the minutes of the 10/20/11 meeting was postponed until the next meeting because Gerry Foster and Anne Bing had not attended the October meeting.

BUDGET REPORT
Balance - Mrs. DiCamillo reported as of 11/14/2011, the balance in the General Fund (Tree Commission and Public Works) was $11,645.00                        

NEW BUSINESS ~~
CL&P – free tree service offer
CL&P is offering 5 days of tree trimming services free to New London district towns. Towns are asked to prioritize the trees that need trimming. Mrs. DiCamillo may meet with Tom Degnan and Ed Adanti to identify locations where trees need trimming. There are a lot of broken tree branches on the north side of Old Shore Road.

Chairman’s letter to residents
Mrs. DiCamillo drafted an informational letter to homeowners affected by CL&P’s enhanced trimming project. The letter was posted on the town website and was mailed to residents of Sill Lane, Mill Lane, Mill Pond Lane, Riverbank Road, Riverview Road, Binney Road and Landing Road. Representatives from Asplundh Tree Experts will request permission to trim the trees. Homeowners should contact Asplundh at the number provided on the door hangtag with any ask questions or concerns about the work. Homeowners are encouraged to be present when the trees are trimmed and may contact the Tree Commission at Town Hall.
OLD BUSINESS    
17 McCurdy Road – resident request for planting at culvert
Tree Commission members voted via email regarding the request for the town to plant trees or shrubs to screen the area cleared when the Duck River culvert was repaired.  Gerry Foster, Anne Bing, Joan Flynn and Joanne DiCamillo voted no, Emily Griswold voted yes. Tom Degnan, Tree Warden, will be consulted regarding an alternate plan and will make the final decision.
  
MEMBER REPORTS
Gerry Foster attended the October Conference on Urban and Community Forestry in Connecticut. She reported that the conference was very informative.

Response to letter - CL&P trimming
Mrs. DiCamillo responded to a number of questions left at the Selectman’s office about the CL&P trimming project.
56 Sill Lane – Kerri Mertaugh was concerned about a very old maple tree on the front of her property and will call the number on the hangtag left on her door.


20 Miami Avenue - Rose Germano was concerned about a tree on her property that needs to be trimmed, she put in a trimming request on CL&P’s website.

Sill Lane- Riverbank - Kinny Kreiswirth asked if River Bank Lane was included in the project.

126 Sill Lane - Craig Bulas – left a message

53 Hawks Nest Road - Ron Bianca reported that trees along Rte. 156 had been trimmed but branches are still hanging over the utility wires near the State picnic area. Mrs. DiCamillo reported the situation to Susan Stotts, southeastern representative for CL&P.

1 Mill Lane – Bill Kadlec – left a message

Request for shrub pruning/removal on town right-of-way
6 Saunders Hollow Road – David Bocian reported that a large rhododendron on the town right of way is blocking the sight line to the north of his driveway. The shrub was pruned in the spring but Mr. Bocian requested that it be pruned again. Mr. Adanti spoke with Mrs. DiCamillo; she agreed to call Mr. Bocian to resolve the problem.

REMINDER - Next Meeting ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Next scheduled meeting is on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 4 PM at the Town Hall.

ADJOURNMENT
Gerry Foster moved, seconded by Anne Bing, to adjourn the meeting at 4:33 PM. Motion unanimously approved.
