Rogers Lake Authority Minutes 08/08/2012
ROGERS LAKE AUTHORITY
~MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF AUGUST 8, 2012
A meeting of the Rogers Lake Authority (RLA) was convened at the Rogers Lake Clubhouse at 7:30 pm on August 8, 2012.~ The following members were present:  Robert Recor and Richard Smith, Dennis Overfield, Tom Mondelci, Tom Baehr, and Mike Sicord. There were 10 attendees.
The meeting was called to order at approx 7:30 pm. Minutes of July meeting were read and a motion to approve was made by Mike Sicord and 2nd by Robert Recor.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.
Weeds:
At this time Matt Vogt from New England Aquatics was introduced and spoke about the suction harvesting that was in progress at the boat launch and south by Grassy Hill Road.  His firm has been operating the harvesting for the last week and a half with some good results.  He had a dialogue with the audience to explain his operation and field questions about the weed problems and ways to correct the problem.

It has been noticed that algae blooms have been appearing in the shallows especially along the north end of the lake along Blood Street. These blooms have created some dead fish that have been reported as washing up on some residents front yard.  The blooms are created from excess phosphorus in the water.  Phosphorus washes into the lake from chemicals in the soil and is created from the bottom of the lake by decaying vegetation.  We are watching this carefully and the dead fish have pretty much stopped at this time.

Memorial Bench
A permit has been issued for the work to proceed on the area at Haines Park where the Fred Holth Memorial Bench will be placed.  Work should proceed shortly.
Police Patrol:
Mike Sicord has had some police and DEEP Officers ride along on different occasions lately to help show a legal enforcement presence on the lake.  This is in an effort to point out over horsepower boats and identify what we can possibly do about this problem.

Benthic Mats:
Five benthic mats are on order, we are awaiting delivery and installation by New England Aquatic.

Boat Launch
New signage has been located at the boat launch.  A new sign has been erected on the walkway between the boat ramp leading to the parking lot.

Old Business:
Over 135 horsepower boats are becoming a bone of contention, especially their loud exhaust and blatant use at late hours. Rogers Lake has a 135 horsepower limit on the size of the motor permitted to be used in the lake.   The board needs to find some course of action to use against the use of these boats operating in the lake with oversize motors.  More discussion is needed.

New Business:
None
Meeting adjourned at 8:55 pm.
