ROGERS LAKE AUTHORITY
~MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JANUARY 11, 2012
A meeting of the Rogers Lake Authority (RLA) was convened at the Rogers Lake Clubhouse at 7:30 pm on January 11, 2012.~ The following members were present:  Robert Recor and Dick Smith of Old Lyme, Dennis Overfield, Tom Mendelci, of Lyme.
Attendees included Joe Baehr, Linda Chough, Laurie Lew of the conservation commission and J. Rinalli
The meeting was called to order at approx 7:35 pm.
Minutes of November meeting were reviewed and approved with the following corrections: Ralph Eno not Tim Griswold was present at the Dec meeting. The word Fanwart in the minutes should be spelled Fanwort.
Motion to approve the minutes with corrections was made by R. Recore and 2nd by T. Mendelci.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.
Old Business
Fred Holth Memorial Bench:
Dennis Overfield presented his findings on a park bench for a memorial for Fred Holth. A model that matches the benches at Hines Park was selected and approved.
Motion to approve the bench was made by Tom Mendelci and 2nd by Robert Recore.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.
Budget:
In discussion, there are a few key pieces required to complete the budget, civilian patrol and boat expenses and G Knocklien's  report on recommended courses of action for the priority ares of weed control and approx cost of these recommendations.
Weeds:
George Knockien's report was unavailable at this time, it should be within to us within the next week.
Seventeen people from the Old Lyme Conservation Commission were in attendance.  The topic of discussion was their concerns over the possible use of pesticides in the lake. What the long term effects may be and the possibility of contamination of the drinking water in the shallow dug wells which surround the lake.
The RLA board explained that they are presenting options to the Towns for weed control and that the lake study findings that will be presented to the 1st select person will include all forms of weed eradication such as Hydro-raking, hand pulling, suction harvesting, dredging, the use of benthic mats as well as herbicides to enable towns full knowledge for the evaluation and determination of direction and funding.
It was noted that the town playing fields on Town Woods Road will no longer be using pesticides.
Robert Recor presented some studies on herbicides for evaluation. The conversation commission  asked for these studies for review. A brisk discussion ensued with both parties resolving to work together.

Motion to adjourn was made by Dennis Overfield and 2nd by Tom Mencelci.  The motion passed by unanimous vote.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.
