Special Meeting
Thursday, April 11, 2019

PRESENT WERE: Harold Thompson, Todd Machnik, Jon Curtis, Steven Ross, Robert McCarthy, Alternates Don Willis and Barbara Gaudio
GUESTS PRESENT: CT State Representative Devin Carney, Selectman Chris Kerr, Land Use Coordinator Keith Rosenfeld

Chairman Thompson called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The commission began the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance

Discussions with State Rep. Devin Carney:
Questions were asked and the following topics discussed:
What is being done to attract business to CT
Income & Business taxes, cumbersome business regulations
Pension benefits for newly hired State employees
Union opposition to benefit changes & private contracting
Tolls and the allocation of revenue, “lockbox”, exemptions to use where collected
Property tax proposals under consideration by the legislative committees
Proposal to shift payment of motor vehicle tax from towns to the State
Proposals being considered for requiring towns to partially fund teacher pensions
Marijuana legislation
Governor considering State/Outside Contractor relations for some services
Governor proposes scholarships for job training
Delays in obtaining approval from some State agencies

The commission thanked Rep. Carney for his attendance and information. Chairman Thompson thanked Barbara Gaudio for making the arrangements for the discussion.

The Special Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 pm.
