Park and Rec Commission                                         
June 4, 2009
Members:  Glynn McAraw, Chrmn. Robert Dunn, William Crandall, Roger Zito.
Absent Mary Ellen Garbarino, Missy Colburn, John Flower.
Meeting started at 7:35 pm.
Minutes of the May 7, 2009 meeting unanimously approved as written.
Programs:  Yoga, Basketball, Zumba dance programs have finished.
Summer activities:  Basketball and soccer camp might have to be expanded.
Kayaking:  little interest last year.  Could be cancelled.
On-line sign up is problematic.  Working to fix it.
Staff meeting June 6 for summer workers.  (40 kids)
Sound View parking lot open.  Weekdays $10.00 weekend/holiday $20.00
Rowing:  All contacted….waiting for go ahead.

Town Woods Park:  
Operating committee met to discuss the propane bill received for updating/moving gas
lines and tanks.  One of the charges on the bill is being checked by the Finance Office>
Motion by Bill Crandall, seconded by Roger Zito to approve payment not to exceed $741.00.  Motion passed.

There was vandalizism by way of removal of the weathervane from the roof of the park building.  It was determined that access to the roof was from a lattice enclosure used for storage.  Motion was made by Roger Zito, seconded by William Crandall to remove the enclosure and to put rock around the building.  Motion unanimously approved.  Machnik Bros. will provide the rock.
Noted that the security system is problematic.  Power-surge problems?????

Discussed Ct River Lacrosse Club use of Town Woods fields for games/practice.
Documentation was received which shows 125 (45%) out of town participants who play.
Letter also received stating that an agreement has been finalized to start using
fields in Old Saybrook this year and next.  However, no resolution has occurred with Region 4.  The commissioners decided that this situation must immediately be resolved.    
and at the May 6 meeting unanimously decided that the CT River Lacrosse club must
immediately pay the Town of Old Lyme $25 for each out of town participant (125 x$25=
$3,125) for the use of the Town Woods fields for the remainder of this season.  Bill will be sent the Ct River Lacrosse Club.

Town Woods Policy:  Draft was sent to Town of Lyme Park and Rec for comments.
There has been no response from them.  A motion was made by Robert Dunn to accept the amended TW policy, seconded by William Crandall.  Vote was unanimous.  Lyme Park and Rec will be informed of this.         Meeting adjourned at 8:05pm.  
Next meeting scheduled for July 2, 2009
