Park and Rec Commission
April 2, 2009
Members: Glynn McAraw, Chairman, Robert Dunn, John Flower, Roger Zito,
Missy Colburn, Donald Bugbee, Director.
Before the meeting we gathered and celebrated with cake, made by Glynn, Don’s excitement of the HS girls’ basketball team, of which he was coach, win of the girls’ 2009 State Basketball title.
Meeting started at 7:40 pm.
Minutes of the Feb. meeting unanimously approved as written.
Program updates:
Yoga ongoing thru May 20
New program: dance fitness class called “Zumba” to be run by Donna Neaton,
will be held at the center school gym, Tuesday’s 7:15-8:15 pm. thru the end of May.
Adult basketball ongoing Wed. evening at the High School gym.
Employees: should have everything wrapped up by the end of April. Having a record number of applicants.
Town Woods: open for the season. Water on, bathrooms open.
Use of Fields: Youth Lacrosse team using field for practice and games
Soccer teams. HS Girl’s Lacrosse team using field for practice and games.
Adult men’s soccer using fields on Sunday mornings.
Fields look good.
The fields are lined as follows: #1) youth lacrosse/soccer #2) girls/boys lacrosse/soccer
#3) soccer.
Little League: Don will meet this week with Keith McCarthy to go over using Town Woods fields.
New Request from Rob Roach, Dist #18 Athletic Director, to use softball field at Town Woods for Middle School girls practice. The infield at Dist #18 is fairly good, the outfield has been cut in half by construction fencing. This would not an everyday thing.
The big problem is getting the girls to town woods. This is being worked on and they will use the school field as much as they can. Motion by Bob Dunn to approve use by Middle School girls to use Town Woods softball field. Second by Roger Zito. The vote was unanimous.
Sign up on line for all Park and Rec programs should be available end of April/beginning of May. First of May all summer program info will be on line.
Don has had requests by residents and school kids to use Town Woods Park facilities for personal use. Discussion followed on policy for use of the field. Bob and Don will get together to draw up a policy for use of the facility at Town Woods and present it to the Commission at the next meeting for approval and vote.
