Park and Rec Commission
November 7, 2013
Members: Robert Dunn, Chairman, John Flower, Timothy Gavin, Missy Garvin, Glynn McAraw. Mary Ellen Garbarino and Roger Zito absent. Donald Bugbee, Director on vacation.
Meeting started at 7:00 pm
Program Updates provided by Don Bugbee and reported by Bob Dunn.
Fall Soccer: ran from Sept 14-Nov 2, 2013....17 teams....breakdown as follows (4) Pre-K, (4) Gr 1, (4) Gr 2-3 and a group of Gr 4-5 players. Teams were co-ed and included Lyme and Old Lyme residents. OLHS Soccer players helped out as Assistants and Referees. Income $4660 for Old Lyme players only.
Adult Open Gym Basketball: Held at HS Gym...Wednesdays 6:30-9:00pm.....from Sept 11- June 4, 2014.
Sunday sessions...10:00-12:00am start in November....for Lyme and Old Lyme residents only. No sign-ups or fees....teams are formed each week based on participation. Middle School gym on evenings when there
is a home Volleyball match or Basketball at the HS gym.
Yoga: Yoga Instructor will be taking time off this year.....looking for another instructor.....updates provided as they develop.
Winter Youth Basketball: Sign-ups for this program are ongoing thru December 11, 2013....open to Old Lyme residents Grades K-8. Lyme residents....sign up through Lyme Park and Rec.....but will be mixed in on the teams. Details on Park and Rec website under Winter Programs. Tentative coaches meeting scheduled for Saturday December 14th....Season is Jan 4-Feb 22, 2014.
2014 Summer Program Staff: Accepting applications for 2014 Summer Staff.... starting December 1, 2013.
Sound View Parking Lot: Crowds were smaller than usual......weather and economy????...Don feels that Kiosks should be installed in the parking lot. Income for the season $82,115. More to come on the management part of the lot.
Facilities Update: Painting is scheduled for the Spring on the White Sand Beach and Hains Park buildings.
Cross Lane Park Tennis Court crack repairs as well as the Tennis Court Posts and Nets replacement. Purchase of (full size) soccer goals for Town Woods Park fields 2 & 3 will take place in the spring.
Water has been shut-off.
Town Woods Park Operating Committee: met Oct 9, 2013....discussed the need for a Field Maintenance
Consultant . Also discussed the recent problem with grub infestation and the quality of the fields. Next meeting Nov 14th.
Facilities Committee: met Oct 13th....discussed Town Property Usage Form, Capital Needs Assessments for all Town property....various ongoing maintenance items throughout the Towns' Buildings and Public Building Security.
