Park and Rec Commission, Special Meeting
January 9, 2013
Members: Glynn McAraw, Chairman, Roger Zito, Missy Garvin, Timothy Gavin, John Flower and Donald Bugbee, Director. Mary Ellen Garbarino and Robert Dunn absent.
Jamie Childs, local rep for Ticks Lacrosse program.
Meeting started at 7:35 pm.
Minutes of the Dec 6, 2012 meeting unanimously approved as written. Motion made by Missy Garvin, second by Roger Zito.
Jamie Childs, Lyme/Old Lyme rep for the Ticks Lacrosse program attended the meeting to discuss the Spring Season. The lacrosse player population breaks down as over 50% Lyme/Old Lyme, balance Saybrook and Essex. There is a field at the Essex Elementary School that is being used for play practice. His guess is that Town Woods field use for games is 38%+. Don suggested that a game schedule be made and given to him….start of season depends upon the field condition. If the field is not playable, other plans would have to be made. He also informed him of the towns need to have 1) a use of town property facility form filled out, 2) copy of insurance form, 3) list of roster. The head of refereeing would like to schedule field training for Girls refs, now. They need two
sessions, 4 hrs each….Have 16 referees to certify/recertify. They would like to hold it at Town Woods, March 3rd/10th, 12-4 pm.

Total of 12 teams…..sign up numbers are way down!!!!!!

Adult Basketball….Wed nights thru May……at High School
Adult Basketball….Sunday morning 8:30-12:30 pm.
2013-2014 Budget completed…..waiting for scheduled appearance at Board of Finance.
Safety Committee…..met 12/19/12
Facilities Committee….met 12/11/12……still working on format for new form.
Glynn mentioned that she has been a Park and Rec commission member since 1986 and chairman since 1999. She is stepping down as chairman. Bob Dunn has indicated he would be willing to take it over. John Flower would be willing to co-chair with him.
Motion made by John Flower to “appoint Robert Dunn as Chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission” . Timothy Gavin seconded. All were in favor. Motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 8:17pm.
