The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Cochairman Jim Bechtel. The HDC welcomed Janet Sturges as
    a new Alternate Member.

A motion was made by Barbara Traskos, seconded by Ken Levin, to approve the minutes of the July 12, 2010
meeting as presented. Jim Bechtel, Ken Levin, Barbara Traskos, John Forbis and Joanne DiCamillo voted in
favor. Nina Peck abstained as she had not attended the July meeting. Tom Keogh arrived late and was not
present for the vote. Motion carried.

    1. Public Open Forum
    No public participation.

    2. Public Hearing: South Green (McCurdy Road), Town of Old Lyme Stone Bench – Janet Sturges      (representing the Town of Old Lyme)
Janet Sturges presented plans for installing a weathered stone bench on the South Green. The stones (photograph included in presentation) had been on the corner of McCurdy Road before the granite curbing was installed. The Old Lyme town crew would place the bench near the linden tree on the South Green. There were no objections from the guests present.

A motion was made by Ken Levin, seconded by Nina Peck, to approve the stone bench CofA application.
Jim Bechtel, Ken Levin, Nina Peck, and Joanne DiCamillo voted in favor. John Forbis abstained. Janet Sturges recused herself. Tom Keogh arrived late and was not present for the vote. Motion carried.

3.  Public Hearing, 1 McCurdy Road, Church of Christ the King Rectory Sign – Janet Sturges (representing Christ the King Church)
A plan was presented for a 10” x 24” black and white Rectory directional sign to be installed on the South Green with two other possible options: a) a smaller closer to the ground sign at the “V” in the driveway indicating by arrows the Rectory and the Cox residence or b) a small Rectory sign on the iron fence in front of the Rectory. As the HDC favors limited signage, the existing Rectory sign (along the Church access road and near the back entrance to the Rectory) was felt to be sufficient.

Neighbors Wendy Brainerd, Holly Cox, and Michele Mergy opposed a Rectory sign on the South Green. Town residents John Wilcox and Virginia Van Dyk expressed their opposition in a letter. Mrs. John Moriarty of Browns Lane wrote that she is opposed to any sign on the South Green that is unrelated to the historical significance of Old Lyme.

A motion was made by John Forbis, seconded by Nina Peck, to deny the Rectory sign CofA application.
Jim Bechtel, Ken Levin, Nina Peck, and Joanne DiCamillo voted in favor. Janet Sturges recused herself. Tom Keogh arrived late and was not present for the vote. Motion carried.
