Harbormasters were also asked approximately how often a boat was required to handle their duties.

Harbormasters Contacted:
Old Lyme- former Harbormasters Brad Ficken, Richard Sagan, John Roach
Lyme- Gary Reynolds
Old Saybrook- Earl Endrich
Westbrook- Peter Johnson, former Chair of HMC
Essex- Paul Riggio
Deep River- Mark Rhyer
Chester- Gil Bartlett

Responses
The replies were the same from each of the above persons contacted regarding the use of a boat and compensation. Each one has used only his personal boat. They all replied that they had never received compensation for the use of their boat, nor had they ever requested any. Three commented that they felt that the fee they receive from the State of CT is sufficient to cover the minimal expense.
Regarding the frequency of use of a boat for their duties was similarly consistent. All indicated that the need for a boat was minimal, a few times a year. Two replied that they take care of such duties while out on the water for pleasure use so there is no additional boat use involved.
One also commented that he thinks reimbursement is part of the state statute and would come from DOT.
