Wednesday, April 3, 2019 - 4:30 PM
Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall - Meeting Hall

1. Call to Order:  
The Economic Development Commission held a regular meeting at 4:30 pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, in the Meeting Hall of the Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall.  

The following members were present: Justin Fuller (Co-Chair), Howard Margules (Co-Chair), John Stratton, Joseph Camean, William O’Meara.  

The following guests were present: First Selectwoman Reemsnyder.

2. Approval of Minutes:  March 6, 2019, Regular Meeting Minutes:
A motion was made by Howard Margules, seconded by Justin Fuller, to approve the meeting minutes. Motion passed.

3. Old Business:

Free Municipal Community and Economic Development Training

Mr. Margules summarized a teleconference with CERC to discuss logistics regarding the upcoming municipal training.  In preparation for the training, CERC asked the EDC to provide a summary of town assets and challenges and several similar towns to compare to Old Lyme during the data presentation portion of the training. Howard took the action to send an email to CERC with this information.

SWOT and Survey Proposal Update

Mr. Fuller stated that the First Selectwoman had signed the current fiscal year contract with CERC for the SWOT and surveys. The EDC discussed the possible timing of these activities.  The EDC felt that May would be the best time for the SWOT. The EDC addressed the importance of this workshop and who should be invited. The EDC discussed that the SWOT should include input from all stakeholders including: local business leaders (full time and seasonal), presidents of the beach associations, town officials, and residents.  The EDC also discussed the idea of identifying a lead point of contact to coordinate the SWOT workshop. Mr. Gregory Symon was nominated.

CERC: Feasibility Study

The First Selectwoman will sign the contract when the next fiscal year begins.

4. New Business:

Summer Old Lyme Events Article

Mr. Fuller asked for assistance with drafting an article for the next Old Lyme Events article, which is due May 3, 2019.  Mr. Stratton volunteered to take the lead for preparing this article.  The EDC discussed that the article should provide a summary of the municipal training and next steps including the SWOT and survey.  Moreover, the article should include a summary of the chamber of commerce meet and greet.

Mr. Margules provided an overview of the meet and greet with the Chamber of commerce.

Old Lyme Economic Development FAQ [Howard]
Mr. Margules suggested we table this activity to later in the year after the training, SWOT, and survey.

7. Announcements:

  • Next meeting: Regular meeting May 1, 2019, at 4:30 PM; Old Lyme Memorial Town Hall; Meeting Hall
  • Deadline for Summer Old Lyme Events article is May 3, 2019
8. Adjournment.
A motion was made by Justin Fuller, seconded by Howard Margules, to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 pm.
