The Open Space Commission vice-chairwoman, Amanda Blair made a presentation concerning the acquisition by the Town of Old lyme of 300 plus acres of land owned by the McCulloch family and currently under the conservation easement in favor of the Nature Conservancy. The vote on the proposal is scheduled for 22 May at town hall. The Conservation Commission unanimously endorsed the proposed purchase as described by Amanda Blair.
George presented a copy of the solar installation report he will submit to the Sustainability Committee  for inclusion in the town submission.

Maureen Plumleigh submitted an article on recycling to the quarterly news
letter. Her investigation of the “permitted” plastic 1-7 category revealed several questionable items for recycling. Few people know exactly what is included with the category plastics 1-7 which are supposedly permitted for recycling but probably are rejected at the recycling facility. More clarification is needed.

Tom Sherer reported that the Congregational Church in cooperation with the Catholic Church are conducting a survey concerning the local footprint
impacting global warming. They have created a matrix and plan to develop action plans toward reducing global warming in Old Lyme as they make more and more people aware of their personal impact on the planet. Tom noted that a major focus of the project is to make the children aware of
the topic snd participate actively in the community effort to reduce our local global impact. WE can buy carbon credits on the UN website.

The meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m. respectfully submitted George James
