Minutes of the Old Lyme Conservation Commission Meeting on September 5, 2017 Town Hall

George reported that the summer festival display entitled “The Pollinators” was visited by fifty or so people. Old Lyme Land Trust maps were handed out. The bee display was particularly popular (two adults said that they would like to raise bees after seeing the display). Many thanks to Anu Godfried Fogg for her outstanding display.
Monarch butterflies have hatched and are beginning their feeding on goldenrod pollen for their epic trip south. We are looking for a source for milkweed seed in preparation for next year’s population of monarchs.
September 6 is the State’s “Well Water Testing Day.” Get your test bottle at Town Hall and have your well water tested. Have your home tested for radon gas while you are at it.
Commission members are discussing a list of recommendations based on the mission statement for the Conservation Commission and the 2010 Town Plan of Conservation and Development. The 2020 Town Plan of Conservation and Development is not that far away.
We also discussed ways to support Dennis Overfield, the new chairman of the Rogers Lake Authority. As more and more residents of the Rogers Lake community establish year round residence, the Conservation Commission would like to assist the RLA in the “war on weeds” by improving communication with beach associations using an expanded email network.
