Minutes of the O.L. Conservation Commission Meeting held on July 11,2017
The meeting was called to order at 7:30. Members present were Tom Sherer, Maureen Plumleigh, and George James
The minutes of the previous meeting we're accepted as written.
New business-
We need one alternate to complete our membership.
George provided OLLTrust trail maps for CC handouts at the summer festival. The Conservation Commission sign at Hains Park was in poor condition due to mildew. Melody Green restored the sign to like- new condition and charged the commission $85. for the work. The commission voted unanimously at a prior meeting to have the sign redone. The members also voted unanimously to pay the bill for repairs.
Tom noted that the organic lawn at the Congregational Church was in excellent condition. Members discussed the Commission’s participation at the town’s summer festival. Our display will be located at the library. On the 19th of this month an expert on pollinators will make a presentation at the library.
The topic for the next town quarterly review will be well water testing. The State Health Department’s pamphlet number 24 provides all the information you need in order to have your well tested. Pick up test bottles at the second floor of Town Hall.
Maureen showed the members the new publication of the Rogers Lake West Shore Association. She also mentioned an article that
described the testing of several Connecticut lakes for road salt contamination, a subject which the Rogers Lake Authority may want to investigate. We welcome Dennis Overfilled as the new Chairman of the Rogers Lake Authority. Maureen will try to find out the names of the Lyme officials who deal with Rogers Lake matters. It was noted that permethrin, made from chrysanthemums, was an effective and relatively safe spray against gypsy moths. It was noted that the Conservation Commission web page should have Beyond
