  • Approve Minutes of December 5, 2013
The commission approved the minutes of December 5, 2013.

New Business

  • Environmental News
Lauralyn shared the national environmental news that General Mills has made the public announcement that Cheerios cereal (yellow box only) will now be made free of GMOs (genetically modified organisms).

Ongoing Business

  • Outreach
Members discussed Earth Day options. There was discussion on the possibility of having the event in March before the good weather is here to enjoy and early enough in the spring sports schedules as to not conflict.  Members feel that due to the amount of work needed to put on this event and the low turnouts, our efforts should be spent on getting a table at other town events. Several possible events were discussed.

  • Rogers Lake

Tom submitted the commission’s list of questions regarding the lake’s weed issues
to the committee that has been formed to examine this.

George reported that he shared a map with First Selectwoman Reemsnyder which
clearly shows the lake as the major aquifer in town. He reported to commission
members that there are ten towns that have winter draw downs. Tom pointed out
the lake is currently in an unofficial drawdown due to the lack of rain this fall.

Maureen highlighted the upcoming CT Federation of Lakes symposium scheduled to
be held at Water’s Edge. Members asked Maureen to email that information to the
selectmen’s office. The three day event would be a good place for the lake committee
      to get information.

The meeting adjourned at 8:32 pm.
Lauralyn Lewis, Secretary
