  • Approve Minutes of May 3, 2012
The commission approved the minutes of May 3, 2012.

New Business

Outreach

  • Display at the Old Lyme Library
Maureen has reserved the display case for August. The display by the commission will focus on pesticides and coincide with the debut of the banner over Halls Road. Discussion focused on materials that would be displayed.

  • George would like the First Congregational Church to use his radon article and his ten tips to growing a pesticide free lawn in upcoming newsletters. Maureen mentioned the radon article has been discussed and approved by the church.

Old Business

  • Region 18 Solar Issue
Members suggested that in addition to the petition signatures, a letter of support may be beneficial for the possible panel placements on the LOLHS campus. This will be discussed further in the July meeting. George had heard that the original proposal had contained some flaws.

  • Town Woods Update
Lauralyn mentioned she and Sue had been told by First Selectwoman Reemsnyder that the first organic fertilizer has been applied to the fields at Town Woods. Dr. Jerry Silbert is helping to direct the town in its use of organics. This information was available in the minutes from the most recent selectmen’s meeting.

  • Roger’s Lake
Linda, Maureen, Sue and Lauralyn recently met with First Selectwoman Reemsnyder and Ed Adanti at Haine’s Park. Linda will have to make a presentation to Inland Wetlands for the excavation and barrier plantings.  Ed will provide fill and seeding to areas in need and address the safety of the docks (metal poles are currently a hazard).

Lauralyn shared that George has been doing some cleanup at Haine’s Park and Linda stated she had been busy with the cleanup as well.

  • Public Access
George informed Lauralyn that his interview with Jim Tripp will be airing tonight on public access (channel 14) at 7pm and again on June 21st at 7pm. He will try to get a disk of the program for further use.

  • Banner
Lauralyn reported that the banner will be hung over Halls Road for two weeks beginning on August 27th.

  • Priority Items
Lauralyn handed out copies of the priority items for review. The commission is doing well with the items set for this year.

  • Trails
Due to the absence of George and Tom, this item will be discussed at the July meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.
Lauralyn Lewis, Secretary

Note: The July meeting will be held on July 12, 2012 due to the holiday.
