- Approve Minutes of December 1, 2011
The commission approved the minutes of December 1, 2011.
Old Business
George and Lauralyn shared the details of the December 16 Selectmen’s meeting
as it pertained to Town Woods. At that meeting, there was the unanimous vote by the
selectmen to ban the use of pesticides on the town owned fields for 2012. In addition,
members were brought up to date on the letter to the editor in The Day which Bob
Dunn authored and the response letter by George and Lauralyn. Both letters are in
Lymeline.
Sue and Linda reported that discussion regarding using pesticides in the lake is
on the agenda of the Roger’s Lake Authority (RLA). Linda attended a (RLA)
meeting in December and spoke to the negative impact the use of these toxins would
have on the environment of the lake and the health of residents as this is an aquifer.
Commission members agreed to attend upcoming (RLA) meetings and continue
to stand in opposition to the possible use of pesticides.
Michael reported that the Education Foundation would like more information.
Michael will send Mike Cain a follow-up email with the information. Maureen
questioned the timing for the contest and will touch base with the LOLHS
Environmental Club liaison.
New Business
Tom wrote this report and members offered suggestions. It is now completed and will
be submitted to the town hall.
An increase in the budget will be requested to cover these additional items: testing of
wells at Town Woods, grant matching for video contest t-shirts, banner funds and a
tri-panel display.
- Priorities/Items for 2012
Members worked on the list of priorities. Tom will type the list and email to members
for additional comment.
- Election of New Officers/New Members
No elections took place due to the delay of appointment letters from the selectmen’s
office. Tom stressed the need for more members. Lauralyn suggested David
McCulloch and Ted Crosby be considered for ex officios.
Lauralyn informed members that the agreed upon dates were submitted to the town
hall. The Conservation Commission will continue to meet on the first Thursday of
each month, at 7:30pm.
The meeting adjourned at 9:33 pm.
Lauralyn Lewis, Secretary
