- Approve Minutes of September 8, 2011
The commission approved the minutes of September 8, 2011.
Old Business
George informed members that playing took place the previous weekend in the rain
and on very wet fields. We were told by Chip Osborne back in March that this
could do more damage to a field than anything else. We had been assured by Don
Bugbee previously, that a protocol was in place to prevent this from happening;
clearly that is not the case. Since the OPC met last, proper maintenance on field
number three has been withheld and playing on wet fields has been allowed, both
decisions seriously put at risk the investment the town has in the fields.
Members looked at more designs for a banner and will make their
final decision in November.
The brochure and two new flyers were reviewed and well received. Revisions
were agreed upon and will be made.
Members voted to fund the Roger’s Lake Sign not to exceed $500.
Maureen has applied for several grants to fund the banner, a table top display, and
color copies of the brochure and flyers. She will be applying for an additional grant to
support the cell phone video contest and possibly a DVD the commission could use
in conjunction with the table top display. Members voted for the submission of the
grant applications.
A test has been promised for the Town Woods site, but due to the cost involved,
no date has been set. George will keep us posted.
- Old Lyme Events Submission (November 4th, 2011 – 4th Qtr. Issue
Maureen will submit her flyer for this issue.
New Business
Election of New Officers
No election took place. Members decided to elect officers at the end of the term.
In the meantime, Tom will remain in the co-chair position with George running any meeting that Tom is unable to attend. Lauralyn has assumed the responsibility of submitting the monthly agenda.
Ideas for Increasing Awareness Regarding Pesticides
Lauralyn and Michael will represent the commission at the annual Health Day on November 5th.
Lauralyn will propose the idea of collaboration on the banner and brochure with the FCCOL Environmental Committee at their meeting on October 13th. She will also contact the Duck River Garden Club to propose the possibility of collaboration as well, as their letter to the selectmen, dated February 2, 2007, called for the use of organic treatment at Town Woods.
Sue will submit a question to Lymeline by the commission for the selectmen debate on October 11th.
Michael will invite Olwen to attend a commission meeting as a reporter for Lymeline so that she can hear first hand the history and the new campaign the commission is working on regarding the pesticide issue.
Climate Change Awareness
Members felt this topic would best be served if discussed at another meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:32pm.
