  • Approve Minutes of August 4, 2010
The group approved the minutes of August 4th, 2010.

New Business

  • Freedom of Information Letter to Town Treasurer, was drafted by Lauralyn.  Commission voted to send the letter to theTreasurer and Selectman Griswold.  GJames to forward draft to Attny. Jane Marsh for comment.  Letter will be sent certified mail, if Commission fails to receive vouchers for chemical applications.
  
  • Vouchers for chemical applications on Town Fields – GJames sent a third letter of request to Park & Rec/ Ron Tyler, dated August 26th. George James presented a rough draft of the letter to the Selectmen for commission approval.  It was agreed to include a copy of the CT Law regarding grades K-8, designated premises, and activities occurring off school grounds (the Lyme-Old Lyme Campus includes the grades K-8, middle school, and high school) since the high school is under renovations and fields are being used for construction equipment.  Currently in question are the sports of all grades and events occurring off school grounds on town fields, i.e., Townwoods Park and Cross Lane Field.
  • Presentation to the Board of Ed – re: pesticides – Monica & Lauralyn to rework draft to BOE, based on Commission Members comments, and include an appendix.
  • Presentation to Selectmen – re: pesticides – GJames to write letter and present to Selectmen, with a copy of a Cost Analysis, on scheduled Selectmen’s meeting, October 18th, 2010.  
  • Film purchase of Chemical Reaction & venues – Lauralyn assigned to gather venue information. Dave assigned to invite Dr. Jerry Silbert, Watershed Partnership, to speak after film.
  • Membership Letter – Monica shared and discussed rough draft of New Members Letter, GJames to provide a brief history of the Conservation Commission to be included in letter.  Each member was asked to consider 2 people, organizations, business for recruiting for membership in the Conservation Commission.

  • Organic Solutions Brochures – it was discussed to make this brochure available to the Residents at the Town Hall.
  • WNV & EEE information – Monica shared recent statistics, as of August 30th, 2010, CT Agricultural Experiment Station website, State mapping of town by town statistics.  Old Lyme showed no cases of WNV & EEE.
Additional Business

  • Old Lyme Events – Lauralyn stressed importance of quarterly submissions.  Commission discussed submitting the “Getting to Know Your Environment” brochure, possibly as a tear-out reference for residents.  Monica & Lauralyn to make submissions to Donna Fiorentino, of Essex Printing, requesting deadlines.  Next deadline is November 5th, 2010.  
  • Compost Site – Lauralyn stressed the importance and need for a town compost site.  GJames mentioned there isn’t a viable site at this time.
