Town of Old Saybrook

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Zoning Board of Appeals of the Town of Old Saybrook at its Meeting that was held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at  the Town Hall, First Floor Conference Room, 302 Main Street, heard and decided the following appeals:

Seated for this evenings meeting and voting were the following members: Rexford McCall, Chairman, Chris Gosselin, Joan Strickland and Mary Kennedy (alternate)

Present: Kim Barrows, Clerk

Absent:  Dorothy Alexander, Vice Chairman, Brian Dooley, Kent (Skip) Johnson (alternate) and Allan Fogg (alternate)

The meeting was then called to order at 7:35 p.m.

The following  public hearings were conducted, as well as the decision making sessions.  The meeting has been recorded on tape and the following actions were taken:

The Chairman introduced the Board members who were seated for this evenings meeting. The Chairman then proceeded to read the Legal Notice into the record.

09/10-30 C  Saybrook Point Marina, Inc. seeks a variance of Par. 10.7.1 (nonconformity), Par. 37.4.2 (front setback fr. Bridge St./25' req./proposed 21.5' for 2nd story porch and 3rd story deck), Par. 37.4.3B (other property line/15' req./proposed 6.2' for 2nd story deck and 3rd story deck), Par. 37.4.3B (other property line/15' req./proposed 4.7' for 2nd story and for enclosed stairway at rear), Par. 62.4.5B (residential parking/7.5 on-site req./propose 6 spaces on site, 4 off-site) and Par. 64.5.6A (sign dimensions/3 sq. ft. max req./propose 12 sq. ft. (3x4) max.) of the Zoning Regulations to permit renovations and upgrades to principal building which include demolition of one-story section to the rear and addition of second and third stories (see file for more details) on property located at 21 Bridge Street, Map No. 24, Lot No. 53.

Present: Attorney David Royston, attorney for the applicant; Mr. Steven Tagliatela, applicant

The Chairman stated for the record that there were only four (4) Board members present and asked the applicant whether or not they wanted to proceed this evening.  It takes four (4) affirmative votes to grant a variance.  Attorney Royston conferred with his client and it was decided that the public hearing opening should be deferred until the July 14, 2010 Regular Meeting.  

A Motion was made by R. McCall, seconded by C. Gosselin to DEFER the opening of the Public Hearing on Application 09/10-30 C  Saybrook Point Marina, Inc.  No discussion and a vote was taken:  In favor:  R. McCall, J. Strickland, C. Gosselin, M. Kennedy Opposed:  None  Abstaining: None   The motion passed unanimously. 4-0-0

Minutes:   A Motion was made by R. McCall, seconded by M. Kennedy to approve the Minutes of the May 12, 2010 Regular Meeting with the following correction: add Chris Gosselin to members present at the meeting.  No further discussion and a vote was taken:  In favor:  R. McCall, J. Strickland, C. Gosselin, M. Kennedy Opposed:  None  Abstaining: None   The motion passed unanimously. 4-0-0

Adjournment:  A Motion was made by R. McCall, seconded by M. Kennedy to adjourn the June 9, 2010 Regular Meeting of the  Zoning Board of Appeals. No discussion and a vote was taken: In favor: R. McCall, C. Gosselin, J. Strickland, M. Kennedy    Opposed:  None  Abstaining: None   The motion passed unanimously. 4-0-0  The  meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.


The next Regular Meeting of the ZBA will be on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the TOWN HALL, First Floor Conference Room, 302 Main Street.
