Call to Order
Chairman Barnes called the meeting to order at 5:33 pm.

Pledge of Allegiance
Chairman Barnes led the pledge of allegiance.

Comments from the Public   None


IV.
Review and Approval of Minutes
A motion made by Ms. Kennedy  to approve the minutes of April 4, 2017, was seconded by  Ms. Tiezzi.  Discussion:  Kiwon-Paul Dionne-Jee noted the correct spelling of his name.  Minutes as amended were so VOTED unanimously.

Chairman’s Comments  
Chairman Barnes welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming.  He noted how proud he was of the student representatives this year and thanked them.  He then turned it over to Ms. McNeil.

Director’s Report
Ms. McNeil thanked everyone for coming.

  • Cardboard Community 4/28:
Ms. McNeil reported that this project went very well.  They reached their financial goal of $2,500.  31 students stayed overnight.  OSPD checked in during the evening.  Representative Devin Carney and Selectman Fortuna were there for the ribbon cutting.  All in all it was a success.
  • Wellness Weeks OSMS/OSHS
Wellness days at OSMS and OSHS:  Wellness day was April 6th at the Middle School.  April 17th – 21st were wellness days at the high school.  Kiwon reported that is was well received.  Mr. Rafferty talked about transition to college.  Dr. Allen and Dr. Alish Farrell were there as well.
  • School Services:
Ms. McNeil noted that there are more kids in after school programs.  They call themselves the “chill group.”
Ms. McNeil also noted that they were invited to the National Conference on Positive Youth Development.
  • Summer Programming:
Ms. McNeil noted Movies on The Beach; Summer Stock Theater.  She also noted that the Community Variety Show at the High School on May 5th funds Summer Stock Theater.
Ms. McNeil then spoke about Netflix  “13 Reasons Why.”   Ms. Welsh noted that it was starting to ebb a bit.  Ms. McNeil passed out “Can We Talk?”  in reference to “13 Reasons Why.”  A short discussion ensued.

New Business
Ms. McNeil noted that the Senior Awards will be on June 1, 2017.  The recipients for the 2nd Annual Y&FS award this year will be Philip Max Ledwith and Shannon Corlin.  


IX.

Other Business

Ms. McNeil noted that there will be two new interns from Central Connecticut State College starting in the Fall.  

It was discussed that the June meeting would begin at 5:00 p.m.

Adjournment – A motion to adjourn at 6:02 p.m. by  Chairman Barnes, seconded by Mr. Paradis was so VOTED unanimously.
