OSYFS COMMISSION MEETING 11/3/15 - Minutes
Meeting called to order at 5:27pm by Chair Sam Barnes
Present at the meeting: Director Heather, Chair Sam, Secretary Jona, Students: Kiki and Megan, PHNB Rep Janet and Vice Chair Jen
Absent: School Rep. Catherine Kane and Student Philip Max Ledwith

Directors report:
Meghan and Kiki – reported that 95 people attended the spaghetti fundraiser for YAC 10/16. They were on ICRV radio 10min interview. Roughly 40 students were involved in the project on the green. They raised $2300.00 for teen housing insecurity issues.
Heather - 10/07~ - Survey presentation at the Kate; 75 attendees
Monday 11/9 at the Pavilion will be a shorter version of presentation and student panel 6:30pm Will be aired online via website
Friday YAC to Lake Compounce
104, 77, 74 first three meetings for high school
34 for 8th graders
May move some YAC MEETINGS TO THE REC
Thursday is next meeting
Sticker shock campaign, raising awareness of underage drinking and social hosting liability laws coming up 11/20 afterschool
Acquired extra van from BOE
Survey Committee with HCHY
Need more clinical services in school
Need a broad based clinical approach
A proposal may include sharing the expense for additional clinical services with school and community
Superintendent is in favor of continuing the survey
Building was evacuated the other day due to two employees reporting a smell and that they felt “lightheaded”. Staff and interns received an emergency protocols training by Director 10/28/15, and a fire drill and evacuation was coordinated with Fire Marshall Donn Dobson. Staff and interns were able to practice discharging a fire extinguisher under D. Dobson’s guidance.
Turkey pick up for community members in need will be at OSPD 11/23 & 11/24 2:00-6:30p.m.
11/17 YFS will be at OSHS for an day, full school workshop with Anti-Defamation League.
Youth Action Council will have a presence at the Winter Stroll- hopefully in location next to Starbucks. Guilford Savings bank has agreed to financially sponsor the group for this event.

Need another Junior class male student to join the board Two female sophomores to replace the current seniors
Other business:
Middlesex United Way can direct donations right to OSYFS
Sam Barnes asked for feedback on whether there are any YAC students who would want to participate in under age sting for cigarettes with proper training
YAC Xmas caroling 12/17 at local nursing homes
11/21 host a craft table at senior center craft fair
11/4 & 11/11 training for senior center DAMHAS
Next meeting 12/1/15 at the Pavilion 5:30
