The Collaborative Services Team began two years ago as a way to get school behavioral services for students and family at the same table, cause they share the same clients.
The School Services are related to the Drop in Center at the High School for two days at 5 hours a week and is run by Chelsea Graham.  Its purpose is to alleviate some of the counselors work load and provide more services during the school day for the students.  It provides quality services for the students, and is very flexible and discreet.  At the Goodwin School they have Lunch Bunches.  This provides kids who need help with social relationships.  At the Middle School they have a 7th & 8th grade Boys Group for those who have a difficult time getting along with adult figures or other students their own age.  It’s an action based group where they are actively involved within the school setting.  This creates a positive setting for them as the staff can see them doing good things for the school and with other students.   There is also a girls group.  At the High School there are two interns running a program after school on Mondays.  This is for the students that don’t get involved in other programs  It’s an opportunity for these kids to come together and share their unique qualities and interests.
There was a Networking Breakfast held on Thursday with 35 attendees of community behavioral health providers, private practitioners and area doctors.  It was an opportunity to share specialties of treatment.  There were four speakers.  There is an increase in providing mental health services in the schools.  Family Day was a great success.  It was a combination of HCHY, Youth & Family, Park & Rec and the Police Services coming together to provide activities for all ages on the green.  They are trying to get more teenage activities.  The next endeavor will be Tuesday October 29th from 6-7:30 p.m. at the High School Media Center of the Community Summit to bring the adults and the High School students together.  Gretchen Bushnell got info from students on what they’d like to see for activities and reported back to the adults.  They agreed that they like to get together with the youth and let them know they (adults) are listening and now will try to figure out the best way to put these ideas together and how the activities will be planned.
