Director’s Report
- The budget was presented to the Board of Selectmen and asked for municipal support of 30% for each of the two program coordinator positions.
- The Suicide Prevention and Resource brochure and website have been completed. The information provided is to teach students and adults how to get help for their peers and family members and not to handle situations themselves. There will be workshops at school during Wellness Week and also in the evenings for the community. Distribution is in the process of going to healthcare and behavioral health providers, newspaper and Town Events magazine.
- The After-School Clubs is one of reasons for the increase in their budget. The numbers are up for enrollment. More parents are able to utilize this program and keep kids occupied during the time right after school.
- YFS in conjunction with HCHY is planning a program on March 11th from 4-5:30 pm called the Community Leaders Youth Summit. This is a collaborative project with OSPD, HCHY, YFS to encourage community leaders in all sectors to provide opportunities / experiences for youth development.
- On Sunday, March 24 from 1:30-3:30 pm at OS Park and Rec there will be a Lego® Build. This is in collaboration with Westbrook Youth and Family. The cost is $25.00 per family.
- Wellness Days at OSHS and OSMS will take place in March and April.
- The Courageous Parenting program finished up its three sessions. This time it was opened up to Westbrook. The important issue that came out of the sessions was tha parents need a parent support group to talk with each other and gain support for parenting challenges.
- The Family Bowling Day was a success. There were also two seniors doing their Senior Project related to Suicide Awareness so they were on hand to give out some of the brochures and talk with interested people.
- This Sunday at the Pavilion at 4:30 pm will be Asset Team Training.
