Director’s Report 1) The Sliding Scale Fee changes were last voted on in 2011. She presented a proposal that breaks down the fees with more options in accordance with the CPT codes. A motion was made by Chairman Sam Barnes to accept the proposal as presented; seconded by Diane Aldi-DePaola; Ayes 7, Nays 0 and Abstentions 0; motion carried. 2) The Community E-mail is being asked to
include other events and info about other charitable organizations. After a discussion by the Commission it was determined that this should only be used for Youth & Family events and information. However, a ‘Community Corner’ could list other items once a month with links to other’s websites. 3) Wellness Days at OSHS will be April 25th and 26th.. Their reason for only two days is to allow them to concentrate their efforts and bring in outside speakers. The OSMS Wellness Day arranged by Terri Savino of Middlesex Hospital will take place on April 3rd all day. 4) A Suicide
Prevention Grant is being applied for through DMHAS and SAMHSA. 5) Director Heather McNeil was approached by a Suicide Awareness Committee member about doing a fundraiser and so on April 26th at the Middle School at 7:30 pm they are putting sponsoring a concert called “Ticket to Ride” (Beatles music) to promote mental health awareness. Tickets are $20.00 and they hope to raise $5,000.00. The band puts on two 50-minute shows with an intermission. During the intermission, the Asset Team and REACH Team will be selling refreshments. 6) YFS has a couple of programs coming up at the high school tying in with
ADL. The first is on March 28th at the Museum of Tolerance in NY. The second is the YES Conference on April 11th. 7) The Community Leader Youth Summit will be Monday, March 11th from 4-5:30 pm at Saybrook Point Inn. The purpose of this Summit is to gather community leaders who impact our children to discuss important questions and to introduce proven theories of Youth Asset Building, provide some time to network with each other, and introduce the new motto: :Love out Town…Love our Kids…Do the Right Thing!” 8) There is a question that requires further research related to
accommodations for any special needs students and what can be done depending on the health/medical issue. |
