The regular meeting was called to order by Chairman Sam Barnes at 5:21PM

IV.     Comments from the Public – There were no public comments.

V.      Approval of Minutes of the Special Meeting of June 8, 2010

A Motion was made by Ray Allen to approve the minutes of June 8, 2010.  This motion was seconded by Beth Ruth.  No Discussion.  The motion was carried unanimously.

VI.     Staff Reports – Each staff member introduced themselves and gave a brief description of their job responsibilities as part of the Old Saybrook Youth and Family Services team.   

VII.    Director’s Report
Summer Programs – The HCHY sponsored teen trips over the summer in conjunction with the OS Parks and Recreation Department.  Enrollment in the Summer Teen Trips was very good with 90% overall enrollment.   
Youth Coordinator Position – The Family Resource and Youth Coordinator is an open position we are looking to fill.
Budget – Expenditures were made for building maintenance, a new phone system and computers.
HCHY/Freshman Retreat – The OSHS freshman class completed another successful retreat to foster supportive relationships in the school and community.  20 upper classmen were present on the retreat to serve as mentors and to build a connection between the existing students and new freshman class.  HCHY Family Day will not take place this year due to limited financial resources and community involvement.  However, there will be other opportunities throughout the year to build family and community relationships.
Statistics from last Fiscal Year – YFS and HCHY reported more programs and more children enrolled in 2009/2010 than in previous years.  Counseling intakes have also increased.  

VIII.   Local Prevention Council
  • Budget Plan and Update on Drug Free Community Grant - The Drug Free Communities Grant has a surplus of approximately $40,000. which may be carried over into the next fiscal year.  This Commission, and its representatives from the 12 sectors of the community, will decide on a plan for the use of the carryover money from 2009.  
  • Survey update and Plan to Distribute – HCHY Surveys will be given to children in grades 6th – 12th grade prior to Thanksgiving break.  This will mark 10 years of survey data for the town of Old Saybrook.

New Student Representative – The Members reviewed the recommendations for three candidates and a decision was made for the new Student Representative.  

A Motion to select Katie Prozesky as the new Student Representative was made by Ray Allen.  This motion was seconded by Kathryn Hanratty.  No Discussion.  The motion was carried unanimously.  

X.      New Business – none

XI.     Adjournment

A Motion to adjourn was made at 6:45PM by Ray Allen.  It was seconded by Kathryn Hanratty and carried unanimously.  

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Tuesday October 5, 2010 at 5:00PM at the Pasbeshauke Pavilion at Saybrook Point Park, 155 College Street Extension Old Saybrook, Connecticut  06475
