Present: First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna Jr., Selectman Scott Giegerich (by phone), Selectman Steve
Gernhardt, Town Clerk Sarah Becker, Treasurer Bob Fish, Police Chief Michael Spera, Finance
Director Lisa Carver, and members of the public.
I. CALL TO ORDER – First Selectman Fortuna called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

VI. BUSINESS BEFORE THE BOARD
A. Discuss and act on Board of Selectmen 2014 Meeting Schedule.
First Selectman Fortuna stated that this was similar to the 2013 schedule in that there was
one afternoon and one night meeting per month. Consensus was that this had worked well.

Motion to adopt the 2014 Meeting Schedule for the Board of Selectmen.

B. Discuss and act on 2014 Holiday Schedule.

C. APPOINTMENTS
1. Acton Public Library. Re-appointment Betty Butler. This is a six year
term due to expire 11/2019.
2. Acton Public Library. Re-appointment Kathleen Kohne Smith. This
is a six year term due to expire 11/2019.
3. Acton Public Library. Re-appointment Paula J. Gibble. This is a six year
term due to expire 11/2019.
4. Conservation Commission. Re-appointment Patrick Ingellis. This is a two
year term due to expire 11/2015.
5. Conservation Commission. Re-appointment Emily M. Grochowski. This
is a two year term due to expire 11/2015.
6. Conservation Commission. Re-appointment Richard J. Esty. This is a two
year term due to expire 11/2015.
7. Conservation Commission. Vacancy appointment. This is a two year term
due to expire 11/2015. Nina Garrett (D) as recommended by Chair Walter Smith.
8 . Board of Finance. Vacancy appointment. This appointment is for the
unexpired portion of a four year term due to expire 11/2015. Gregory Gernhardt who was
temporarily appointed at a special meeting last week.
9 . Inland Wetland Commission. Re-appointment regular member William J. Pollock.
This is a two year term due to expire 11/2015.
10. Inland Wetland Commission. Re-appointment regular member Paul H. Smith.
This is a two year term due to expire 11/2015. Mr. Smith does not wish re-appointment, so this will
be a vacancy appointment that will be made by the BOS at a meeting within the next 30 days in
accordance with the Charter.
11. Inland Wetland Commission. Re-appointment regular member Brendan McKeown.
This is a two year term due to expire 11/2015.
12. Inland Wetland Commission. Re-appointment alternate member Charles Wehrly.
This is a two year term due to expire 11/2015.
13. Inland Wetland Commission. Re-appointment alternate member Judith Preston.
This is a two year term due to expire 11/2015.
14. Lower Connecticut River Valley Council of Governments. Re-appointment Karen
Marcolini as the Board of Selectmen representative. This is a two year term due to expire
11/2015.
15. Public Health Nursing Board. Re-appointment regular member Sharon G. Craft.
This is a three year term due to expire 11/2016.
16. Shellfish Commission. Re-appointment James Mitchell. This is a two year
term due to expire 11/2015.
17. Shellfish Commission. Re-appointment Paul Labriola. This is a two year
term due to expire 11/2015.
18. Zoning Board of Appeals. Resignation Vacancy. This appointment is for
the unexpired portion of a two year term due to expire 11/2015. Christopher Sayles Billiau who
served previously as an alternate.
19. Assessor. Re-appointment Norman Wood.
20. Building Official. Re-appointment Don Lucas.
21. Town Counsel. Re-appointment Attorney Michael Cronin.
22. Town Engineer. Re-appointment Geoffrey Jacobson.
23. Emergency Management Director. Re-appointment Michael Spera.
24. Emergency Management Deputy Director. Re-appointment Michael Gardner.
25. Fire Marshal. Re-appointment Donn Dobson.
26. River COG Regional Agriculture Council. Appointment of Old Saybrook
representative to act as an advocate for local agriculture. This is a new position. David Brown has
agreed to serve.
First Selectman went over the above list of appointments.
