SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Tuesday, September 24, 2013
5:30 P.M.
First Floor Conference Room
Present: First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna Jr., Selectman Scott Giegerich (by phone),
Selectman Steve Gernhardt, Police Chief Michael Spera, Finance Director Lisa Carver, and
members of the public.
I. CALL TO ORDER – First Selectman Fortuna called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.m.
II. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE to be done at regular meeting.
III. BUSINESS BEFORE THE BOARD
A. Rescind resolution to recommend to Board of Finance an appropriation and bond
authorization of $5,100,000 for replacement of the roof at Old Saybrook Middle School and
the windows and doors at Goodwin School, and construction or reconstruction of athletic
facilities at Old Saybrook High School.
Selectman Giegerich commented that the suggestion to have three questions was raised at
last week’s Board of Finance meeting and members of the public thought it was more
appropriate and transparent to have three instead of two questions. The Board of Selectmen
has listened to that feedback and taken action.

the windows and doors at Goodwin School, and construction or reconstruction of athletic
facilities at Old Saybrook High School.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
B. Discussion and action on resolution to recommend an appropriation and bond
authorization of $3,900,000 for replacement of the roof at Old Saybrook Middle School and
the windows and doors at Goodwin School and reconstruction of the tennis courts and track
at Old Saybrook High School.
First Selectman Fortuna indicated that if passed, this will be forwarded to the Board of
Finance for their special meeting tonight at 6:00 pm.

appropriation and bond authorization of $3,900,000 for replacement of the roof at Old
Saybrook Middle School and the windows and doors at Goodwin School and reconstruction
of the tennis courts and track at Old Saybrook High School.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
C. Discussion and action on resolution to recommend an appropriation and bond
authorization of $1,200,000 for construction of a turf field at Old Saybrook High School.

Motion to recommend and send to the Board of Finance a resolution to recommend an
appropriation and bond authorization of $1,200,000 for construction of a turf field at Old
Saybrook High School.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
IV. COMMENTS FROM THE SELECTMEN:
Selectman Gernhardt asked the First Selectman if this was all the projects needed in the
foreseeable future. First Selectman Fortuna answered that there were no other capital
projects that he was aware of.
