SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Friday, February 22, 2013
3:30 P.m.
First Floor Conference Room
MINUTES

Present:  First Selectman Carl P. Fortuna Jr., Selectman Scott Giegerich, Selectman Steve Gernhardt,
Finance Director Lisa Carver, members of the public.
CALL TO ORDERFirst Selectman Fortuna called the meeting to order at 3:34 P.m.
  • BUSINESS BEFORE THE BOARD
Discuss and act on a resolution to call a special Town Meeting and Referendum vote.
First Selectman Fortuna stated that there is a 60 day window to close on the AT&T property for the Police
Station project now that the State’s Public Utilities Regulatory Agency (PURA) gave their official approval
of the purchase on February 13, 2013. This means the Town meeting and referendum should be completed
before the end of March in order to allow time for a mid-April closing in order to meet that 60 day deadline.
We are also trying to time approvals so that the legal notice can be published in the Harbor News, which
has a week lead time for publication, but is less expensive than using the New London Day. The Town
Meeting will be scheduled for Monday March 18 at the Middle School and the referendum on Thursday,
March 28 at the High School.

FORTUNA/GERNHARDT
Motion to call a Special Town Meeting on Monday, March 18, 2013 and a Referendum on Thursday,
March 28 to approve the purchase of the property at 36 Lynde Street and to appropriate $1.6 million in purchase
price and professional fees and financing costs. (Resolution attached)

MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
Discuss and act on First Addendum to Lease between Town of Old Saybrook and the Old Saybrook
Chamber of Commerce.

First Selectman Fortuna stated that the current lease with the Chamber of Commerce for the building at the
head of Main Street was for five years at a monthly rent of $650 with an option for a five year extension
with a monthly rent of $750 per month.  The first five year period expires at the end of March and the Chamber
is looking to execute the addendum for the five year extension.  It was noted that this lease was negotiated
by the prior administration. Town has a ground lease and owns the building.

FORTUNA/GIEGERICH
Motion to approve the addendum to the lease between the Town and the Chamber of Commerce for the
building at the head of Main Street.

MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
