ROUTE 1 TASK FORCE ADHOC COMMITTEE
MINUTES
NOVEMBER 27, 2012
Meeting was called to order at 6:36 pm by Chairman D.Shearer
Members Present: Chairman D. Shearer, T. Lyons, J. Keating, B. D’Agostino,
T. Downes, K. Constable. Members absent included E. Baker, K. Roberts

Guests: Jean Davies, Elizabeth Steffins
REGULAR BUSINESS
Motion from J. Keating to approve minutes from October 23, B. D’Agostino
seconded, motion approved
Motion from B.D’Agostino to approve minutes from November 13 special meeting,
J. Keating seconded, motion approved
D. Shearer described November 13 meeting in which the Task Force interviewed two
consulting firms and suggested the Task Force select one.
C. Nelson distributed table comparing the two firms. Discussion of cost and possible
other funding sources.
It was agreed that Committee wants to ask for: statistical assessment, economic overview.
C Nelson will call both firms and say we want something “targeted”.
T Downes felt more comfortable with Mullin.
General Discussion
T. Downes suggested we may want to talk to some of the owners what their plans are
for their property.
T. Lyons suggested we reach out to the owners of west marine and Stanley Motors.
Let’s ask the consultants to help with this as part of their scope.
D. Shearer showed an amateur video of Route 1 east.
T. Downes reported on status of traffic count.
K. Constable suggested the use of rotaries at some intersections.
Signage is a problem, not unified
Agreement that the railroad overpass bridge needs a bike lane and better sidewalk
D. Shearer distributed draft Report template, Discussion of draft Report template as a
“working document” that will evolve as the Committee works.
D. Shearer requests that each member of the Committee will contribute “content” to the Report.
C. Nelson passed out a memo from Kathy Connolly of Old Saybrook Bikeway Committee.
Jean Davies reported on upcoming Route 1 Corridor Plan by the Connecticut River Estuary
Metropolitan Planning Organization.
