MINUTES

Present: First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Selectman Scott Giegerich, Selectman Steven Gernhardt, Board of Finance members, Tom Stevenson, Barry O’Nell, John O’Brien, members of the press and public.


I.
CALL TO ORDER – First Selectman Fortuna called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
II.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE – First Selectman Fortuna led those in attendance.
III.
COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – Comments were taken.
IV.
COMMENTS FROM THE SELECTMAN
First Selectman Fortuna stated he had received a letter requesting the name of someone to represent Old Saybrook on the “Long Island Sound Councils & Assembly” they meet monthly.
V.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES Board of Selectmen Meeting April 10, 2012.
GIEGERICH/GERNHARDT
Motion to approve the minutes of the Board of Selectmen Meeting April 10, 2012.
MOTION CARRIED 2 in favor, Giegerich abstaining due to his absence from that meeting.
VI.
BUSINESS BEFORE THE BOARD
     A.  Discuss and act on the formation of Route 1 Task Force Ad Hoc Committee.
First Selectman Fortuna reviewed the concept and what section would be the focus of the committee.
FORTUNA/GIEGERICH
Motion to form Route 1 Task Force Ad Hoc Committee and appoint: David Shearer, Tony Lyons, Barbara D’Agostino, Kristen Roberts, Torrance Downes, KC Constable, and Eileen Baker.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
B.  Appointments
     1.  Police Commission.  Resignation vacancy.  This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 4-year term due to expire 11/2013.
GERNHARDT/GIEGERICH
Motion to appoint Adam Stuart to the Police Commission. This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 4-year term due to expire 11/2013.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
     2.  Public Health Nursing Board.    Elevation vacancy; alternate member.  This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 3-year term due to expire 11/2014.
FORTUNA/GERNHARDT
Motion to appoint Janet Temple to the Public Health Nursing Board as an alternate member. This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 3-year term due to expire 11/2014.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
     3.  Regional Mental Health Board.  Resignation vacancy.  This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 2-year term due to expire 6/2013.

Motion to table to a future meeting of the Board of Selectmen.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
     4.  Zoning Board of Appeals.  Resignation vacancy; regular member.  This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 4-year term due to expire 11/2013.
FORTUNA/GIEGERICH
Motion to appoint Robert McIntyre as a regular member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. This appointment is for the unexpired portion of a 4-year term due to expire 11/2013
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
