Chief Spera reported to the chairman that he heard from Mr. Robertson who was ill and would not be attending the meeting.

Chairman Moran noted that the purpose of this special meeting was to finalize the Police Facility Building Committee Status Report.

There were noted corrections, suggestions and a long discussion with regard to the “submitted Status Report” as follows:

  • Typos in the first paragraph of the report were noted by Chief Spera and corrected;
  • Take out the word “unfortunately” noted by Mr. Muratori on pg. 7, paragraph 2;
  • Take out the sentence, noted by Ms. Burnham, beginning with  “….Mr. Pace has asked..” on pg. 7, paragraph 2;
Mr. Natale noted, and all agreed that the “type” of building needed for the OSPD could not be built for $5.5M.  In the end, it was noted and agreed by the committee that the suggested $5.5M and square footage was not practical for the OSPD.

Chief Spera interjected and inquired of Chairman Moran if he might pass out a status report that he created for the committee’s convenience and input.  This report is attached hereto and made a part hereof.  There are 20 items that were considered and discussed.  This report was well received by the committee and all agreed that it portrayed a true picture of where the committee was, in their charge, at this time.

Mr. Peace commented that Chief Spera’s report and observations made sense.  Mr. Peace noted that he was going out of office but has talked to many people and there was little support for this project.  He noted that we need to “sell” the community.  He suggested that we benchmark where we are and pass it on.

A short discussion followed.

Motion:  To attach page 2, (entitled Executive Summary – New Police Facility – Second Charge)of Chairman Moran’s draft “Status Report” to Chief Spera’s complete status report, and  include Architect Giolotti’s reports and present the entire composition/report to the First Selectman.

Moved:  A. Natale                                         Second: D. LaMay

Discussion:  It was noted that this was the final meeting of the committee under the direction of the previous Board of Selectmen.

Approved:  5-0-0

Chairman Moran asked Mr. Giolitto to email his reports to Ms. Hockert and Ms. Lewis.

Mr. Natale and the entire committee thanked Chairman Moran for a job well done.

Mr. Peace thanked everyone as well.

There being no further business, Chairman Moran asked for a motion to adjourn.

Motion:  To adjourn at 5:55 p.m.

Moved:  Bill Peace                                      Second: D. LaMay

Discussion:  None
