Chairman McIntyre called the regular meeting to order at 6:34PM. Four commission members were seated to vote.

III. REGULAR BUSINESS

C. Committee, Representative & Staff Reports – Chairman McIntyre reported that the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission is busy with applications for small projects and violations. Christine Nelson reported that a new Environmental Planner was hired, Sandy Prisloe. Mr. Prisloe brings many years of experience in GIS mapping as well as Wetland and Conservation experience. Ms. Nelson discussed the scheduling a workshop for Members to write a summary of the Town’s accomplishments over the last 10 years.

A. “Ralph Gometz” Special Exception use for warehouse (3,960 s.f.)2 & 4 Center Road West (Map 26/ Lots 6-7 & 6-8)

ACTION: Review for consistency with Town Plans; report for 11/01/10 ZC p.h.

This application is a Special Exception before the Zoning Commission. Under current regulations a warehouse is a Special Exception Use in a B-4 Zone. Mr. Gometz explained the history of the property located at 2 and 4 Center Road West where he is proposing to build a third building. The first building, for offices, was constructed in 1994 and the second building, for warehouse space, was built in 1997. The proposed building will be additional warehouse space of approximately 3, 960 square feet, similar to the existing warehouse building. The building will be Cape Cod grey with white trim and architectural roofing shingles. The warehouse space will provide space for individual contractors to store their tools and equipment rather than operating out of their homes.
Chairman McIntyre stated that the building is consistent with the Town of Old Saybrook’s Plan of Conservation and Development.
MOTION to send a favorable recommendation to the Zoning Commission for “Ralph Gometz” Special Exception use for warehouse (3,960 s.f.). 2 &4 Center Road West (M26/L6-7 & 6-8) as consistent with the Town Plan of Conservation and Development, Specifically, Economic Development (Policy) “To encourage development of commercial and industrial sites that is consistent with Old Saybrook’s small-town character with respect to scale, appearance, and design and with special regard for landscape and other site amenities, traffic safety and convenience, and functional and visual images with adjacent areas.” and (Goals) “An enhanced image of Old Saybrook as an important, successful, and enjoyable place for economic activity”.
