Storm Update - A Message from the First Selectman
To our residents:

Another snowy day in Old Saybrook. Thankfully, I can walk to work. Here is an update on what to expect today:

With heavy snow expected to blanket Connecticut, Eversource has kept workers on from the last storm and remains ready to quickly respond to storm-related outages in this third back-to-back nor’easter for Old Saybrook and Connecticut.  Restoration crews and support teams are deployed and pre-positioned as blizzard conditions and high winds are expected state-wide. The Chief of Police and I are in contact with our Eversource Community Liaison so that we get the most up to date information. The major threat to the electric system is weakened trees battered from the previous storms.  Falling trees and branches continue to be the largest cause of power outages. Heavy snow will make travel conditions hazardous. Should you see a road blocked by downed branches or trees, please call Eversource. You may also call Town Hall and we will respond as quickly as possible. Please understand our public works crew cannot work in an area where there are wires down. The Connecticut Department of Emergency Management & Public Protection ,Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) issues weather updates to municipal CEO’s multiple times throughout the day. The latest forecast is for 6-12 inches of snow with a fast moving storm that should exit the area this afternoon.

The Chief of Police, Michael A. Spera, and I work closely in these storms to make sure our residents are safe. Because of the Chief’s superior emergency management skills, Old Saybrook is better positioned than many towns. We are always prepared for what might happen in an emergency in the hopes that we don’t need to execute the plan.

Stay safe.
