Scam Alert !!!
Yesterday, the Old Saybrook Department of Police Services responded to a suspicious person call. The resident reported that a man claimed to be from a utility company but had no patches or logos on his uniform-type jacket and provided an ID card with no photograph. The resident became suspicious and did not let the man into the home, instead the resident contacted the police after the man left the area.
After investigating, it was found that the utility company did not have any workers in the Old Saybrook area at the time of the call. Similar incidents were brought to this department's attention from surrounding towns where the fake utility workers were invited inside or left unattended at the open door and many items were taken from inside the residents homes while they were not looking.
Please be aware of this type of distraction technique used by criminals and report ANY suspicious activity to the Old Saybrook Department of Police Services.
