Old Saybrook to Host Information Meeting on Loan Program to Elevate Properties
OLD SAYBROOK TO HOST INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON
LOAN PROGRAM TO ELEVATE SHORELINE HOMES

First Selectman Carl Fortuna, Jr. announced today that the Town of Old Saybrook will host an
informational meeting for the public on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 7 pm at the Saybrook Point
Pavilion, 150 College Street, concerning the State’s new Shore Up CT loan program.

Shore Up CT is funded through the Connecticut Department of Housing and provides low interest
financing for property owners in coastal municipalities located in Flood Zones VE and AE, as defined
by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Flood Insurance Program
(NFIP), to finance or refinance property elevations or retrofitting for flood protection and wind proofing
activities.

This state program is administered by the Housing Development Fund (HDF) which is a non-profit
Community Development Financial Institution located in Stamford. Representatives from HDF will be
present to provide information about the program’s goals and clarify project requirements and guidelines
as well as answer questions. Shore Up CT is one of the first programs of its kind in the country to
provide state-revolving loan funds to assist in the ongoing Irene and Sandy recovery process and prepare
the Connecticut coast’s built environment for future storms.

“We’re hosting this program to be sure residential and business property owners along the shoreline are
aware of this option to help finance their efforts to protect their homes and businesses from potential
storm damage”, said  First Selectman Fortuna.

Homeowners who wish to find out more information about Shore Up CT can visit www.shoreupct.org.
Applications for this program can be submitted at any time with no current deadline for submittal.
