ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

Minutes of September 8, 2005

Present:  Ken Capano, David Cole, Bruce Greenfield, Howard Huelsman, Jim Keating, Frank Reichart and Wilma Asch  

I.   The meeting, at Town Hall, was called to order at 7:34 p.m. by Chairman Keating.  

II.  On a motion made and seconded (Greenfield/Huelsman) the minutes of 8/11/05 were accepted.

III. Committee Reports
A.  R.R. Donnelley Building
Chairman Keating reported that there have been no further developments regarding the property since our last meeting.

Yale Urban Design & Head of Main Street Project
Wilma Asch distributed draft copies of the Route 1 Corridor Study and Chairman Keating requested feedback from the commissioners at next month’s meeting.  Wilma also provided an update on the Head of Main Street Project.

Land Acquisition
Howard Huelsman indicated that there was no meeting last month.

D.  Board of Finance
Bruce Greenfield spoke regarding the “Adopt a Town” program currently underway in response to aiding a particular community in the hurricane Katrina devastation.

Zoning Commission
David Cole reported the current status of the CVS and Greenberg Property projects.

Planning Commission
Ken Capano stated that there appears to be no application re: Max’s Place before the commission.

Town Hall Restoration
Wilma Asch gave a status report on the project and that a Town Meeting is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 15th seeking authorization to spend $ 2.6 million for the project.

IV. Old Business
David Cole discussed a list of potential candidates for the Spirit of Saybrook award.

New Business
Chairman Keating spoke about the Founders Memorial Park initiative and the informational workshop scheduled for 7:30 pm on 9/27 at the Pavilion

VI. Old Business
Chairman continued discussion regarding the potential planning concepts for the Ferry Point area and EDC’s participation therein.

VIII. Chairman Keating adjourned the meeting at 9:45 p.m.
