Commission Projects
The following 4 projects were discussed by Commission members:
Natural History Tour – Mike Kelley expressed interest in working on this project now that the Stewardship Plan is complete.  Several ideas were discussed including dividing Old Saybrook into 7 conservation sites for the tour, tying the tour into a bike trail, and using the old trolley map as a guide.  Chairman Fish offered to give Mr. Kelley the trolley and 7 conservation sites maps as a guide.  It was the consensus of the Commission that the goal of the tour will be to raise the public’s awareness of what’s available to them.  Members also felt strongly that this tour should be available in both hardcopy (brochure) formats as well as online and possibly even a DVD format to showcase at Old Saybrook events around town.  Mr. Kelley offered to bring some concrete ideas to the next meeting for all to discuss.
The Fishway System – Chairman Fish informed the Commission that 2 out of the 3 fishways are complete (Chalker Millpond & Ingham Pond).  The 3rd fishway (Crystal Lake) now needs attention.  A great number of people have expressed interest in working on this 3rd fishway.  Chairman Fish suggested that the Conservation Commission in conjunction with Parks & Recreation coordinate this effort.  Mr. Fish also suggested holding an organizational meeting which he has volunteered to pull together.  When the date and time is agreed upon, Mr. Fish will inform Commission members.
Great Cedars Signage – Chairman Fish informed the Commission that grants are being sought for Great Cedars Signage and road endings.
Robert Siegelman’s Education & Outreach List – Mr. Siegelman drafted a list of education & outreach project ideas for all Commission members to review.  The list consisted of roughly 12 ideas which Mr. Siegleman discussed with the Commission.  Commission members agreed that his idea of possibly working with the Old Saybrook School System in education about open space, fishways, vernal pools, etc. would be worthwhile.  It was decided that the best way to go about this would be to target and involve the lower elementary school grade levels.  Kim Gallagher suggested that Mr. Siegelman take a look at the science standards for these grade levels and approach the idea from a standpoint of how the Conservation Commission can help address these standards.  Ms. Gallagher also volunteered to speak with her contact in an effort to involve the high school/middle school grade levels as well.

Adjournment
MOTION to adjourn the meeting at 9:00pm. until the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, 7:30pm., Land Use Conference Room, Old Saybrook Town Hall, 302 Main Street.
MOVED by Charlie Cobb.  SECONDED by Kim Gallagher.  IN FAVOR: Bob Fish, Jerry Brophy, Kim Gallagher, Charlie Cobb, Pat Ingellis, Mike Kelley, Robert Siegelman. OPPOSED: None. ABSTAINING: None. APPROVED: 7-0-0.
