Commission Membership & Organization
Chairman Fish announced that Bryan Zielinski took a job in Massachusetts and has therefore resigned from the Commission. The Conservation Commission is down to 5 members. If any Commission members know of someone who is interested please have them contact Bob Fish.
Update: Field Work for the Great Cedars Conservation Area
Wendy Goodfriend was recently in contact with Bob Fish and stated that one site walk had occurred between herself, Rich Snarski, and Penny Sharp. Ms. Goodfriend stated that no vernal pools were found but noticed substantial prickly bush that will complicate the choice of viable trails. A second site walk will follow now that all vegetation is out for the season. After the second site walk is complete a draft will be submitted to Mr. Fish on or around July/August 2005. At that time Ms. Goodfriend would like to invite all Conservation Commission members on a site walk.
Updates: Zoning, Planning, Inland Wetlands, Conservation
Chairman Fish mentioned three projects involving the Planning Commission (CVS, Village Gateway, and Saybrook Country Barn). Mr. Fish stated that $940.00 is left in the Conservation Commission’s budget for this year. With the remaining funds he would like to pay dues to CAICWIC, pay the Conservation Commission Clerk, pay for some additional water samples in and around Chalker Millpond, and set aside the rest in a sinking fund for the East Side of Great Cedars. No other new land use updates were discussed.
Workshop Updates
Judy Preston informed the Commission that the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters Education Fund will be holding a workshop entitled, “Growing, Growing, Gone” to be held on June 23, 2005 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. at the Connecticut River Museum. Bob Fish also mentioned the Tour of Public Access to Coastal Environments in Old Saybrook to be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 6:00 pm.
Commission Tasks and Priorities
Charlie Cobb compiled the results of last month’s voting regarding the Conservation Commission’s tasks and reported that there are now roughly 40 tasks at hand. In an effort to further prioritize tasks it was suggested and agreed upon that each Commission member individually choose the top 15 tasks that they feel are most important. Members can choose any task twice in an effort to weight that task, but are still only allowed 15 choices. Mr. Cobb will compile the results of this second round of voting and reprioritize the remaining tasks for next month’s meeting. In addition, Charlie will submit these results as soon as possible to Chairman Fish for help in completing the Plan of Development.
Adjournment
Chairman Fish adjourned the meeting at 8:50 pm. until the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday July 12, 2005, 7:30 pm., Land Use Conference Room, Old Saybrook Town Hall, 302 Main Street.
Respectfully Submitted,
Melanie Dautrich
Conservation Commission Clerk
