II. NEW BUSINESS
A. “Yale New Haven Hospital” Sign
633 Middlesex Tpke, Map 57/Lot 32-1
Shopping Center B-2 District
Applicant: Yale New Haven Hospital Agent: Ray Sevigny
This is a proposal to utilize the existing, free-standing, double faced, illuminated wall sign. There are no changes proposed in the size, the shape, or the location of the proposed sign. The color of the sign and the font of the text are the only proposed changes along with new faces for the top portion of the sign and new pans for the bottom of the sign. The sign proposal was drawn by Bob St. John, SIGNLITE, Inc. North Haven, CT.
Presenting on behalf of this application was Ray Sevigny, Senior Project Manager Facilities Design and Construction, Yale New Haven Hospital. R. Sevigny stated that it is his job to develop the property at 633 Middlesex Turnpike. The building will be utilized as a multi-speciality space to include pediatric specialty groups and adult specialty groups.
R. Sevigny stated that the only proposed change to the building is the replacement of an exterior door with a glass window. Otherwise, no other changes have been made to the building.
The existing street sign is wood and will be covered with a blue, aluminum façade and the sign will
not be internally lit.
T. Pendleton suggested the utilization of a better light source that would be dark-sky compliant.
Currently there is a halogen in place to illuminate the sign. The business will be open Mon through
Saturday, 8:00am to 8:00pm.
MOTION to recommend approval of “Yale New Haven Hospital” Sign, 633 Middlesex Tpk., with the recommendation that the applicant investigate an alternative, energy efficient, dark sky compliant light source that will not reflect onto the opposing properties; MADE by A.
