 A.    “Tequila’s Restaurant” Sign                                                
         1333 Boston Post Road Map 27/Lot 24
        Gateway Business B-4 District
       Applicant:  Bairon Cruz

Bairon Cruz presented on behalf of this application. This is an application to install a 5’ x 4’-10” internally illuminated sign on an awning situated on a roadside kiosk.  The awning sign over the storefront will be 2’-10” x 2’.

MOTION to recommend approval of “Tequila’s Restaurant”  Sign, 1333 Boston Post Road, Map 27/Lot 24, Gateway Business B-4 District; MADE by B. D’Agostino; SECONDED by T. Brodeur; APPROVED by G. Pendleton, T. Brodeur, S. Missel, B. D’Agostino, B. Akin, J. Hoben; ABSTAINING: None; (6-0-0).

  •    “Mi Gente Express”  Sign

Bairon Cruz presented on behalf of this application.  This is an application to construct an 18” x 58” internally illuminated sign and a 36” x 72” wall sign on the front of the building.

  •    “Becker’s Jewelers” Sign
   105 Elm Street, Map 36/Lot103
   Shopping Center Business B-2 District
                 (Map 36 / Lot 103)
           Applicant: CT Siogncraft / Bob Neth
     
Lowell P. Lippman, CFO Becker’s Jewelry Corp. presented on behalf of this application. This is an application to remove the existing 42” x 19” signage and install new 3’ x 20’ sign.

Mr. Brodeur suggested a sign with floating, illuminated channel lettering which will offer more depth and dimension to the sign and which would also be consistent with the signs on the surrounding businesses.  

MOTION to recommend approval “Becker’s Jewelers” Sign, 105 Elm Street, Map 36 / Lot 103, Shopping Center Business B-2 District with follow changes; Remove the box and the grey background around the perimeter of the lettering; Isolate the floating letters on a back rail mounted directly to the fascia which will be consistent with the existing signs on the adjacent stores.  The content of the sign must be designed to be internally illuminated.  The new design is to be presented to the Zoning Enforcement Officer prior to the construction and the installation of the sign on the building. If necessary, the Architectural Review Board will conduct a special meeting to offer final approval; MADE by T. Brodeur; SECONDED by G. Pendleton; APPROVED by G. Pendleton, T. Brodeur, S. Missel, B.   • “Mar Floral & Botanicals” Sign

Central Business B-1 District
Applicant:  Marlee Santoro

Marlee Santoro presented on behalf of this application.  This is an application to change the lettering on a 24” x 72” PVC sign to read “Flowers”.  Ms. Santoro stated that the word “Flowers” will replace the previous sign of “Old Saybrook Flower”.  Ms. Santoro distributed a proposal for an awning sign.

It was suggested that Ms. Santoro change the font on the lettering of the building sign and change the sign to read “Flower Shop”.

Mr. Brodeur suggested that Ms. Santoro redesign the awning sign proposal which was distributed at this evening’s meeting in order to meet the sign regulations and present to the Board at the April 14, 2014 meeting.

MOTION to continue consideration of the “Mar Floral & Botanicals” Sign, 140 Main Street, Map 37 / Lot 24, Central Business B-1 District.  The applicant will complete the design of the wall and awning signs and will provide the appropriate dimensions to meet the sign guidelines of the Old Saybrook Zoning regulations; MADE by T. Brodeur; SECONDED by A. Yust; APPROVED by G. Pendleton, T. Brodeur, S. Missel, B. D’Agostino, A. Yust, B. Akin, J. Hoben; ABSTAINING: None; (7-0-0).

VI.     ADJOURNMENT

MOTION to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m. to the regular meeting to be held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Old Saybrook Town Hall, 2nd floor conference room, 302 Main Street at 7:30 p.m.; MADE by A.
