Mr. Brodeur called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

  • Minutes
Correction to Motion for the Grossman Nissan sign application to reflect Barbara D’Agostino voting to approve.

MOTION to approve the Minutes of August 26, 2013 as amended; MADE by A. Yust; SECONDED by B. Akin; OPPOSED: None; ABSTAINED: None; APPROVED by T. Brodeur, A. Yust, S. Missel and B. Akin; (4-0-0).

  •     Correspondence~& Announcements
Intramunicipal Memorandum from Cathryn Flanagan, Secretary/Representative to RiverCOG’s RPC for the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission Chairman is seeking input from the ARB in terms of concerns, questions and vision for the region with regard to the Regional Plan of Conservation and Development.

Mr. Brodeur suggested that members review the memorandum, respond to the questionnaire and plan to discuss at the next ARB meeting.

V.      NEW BUSINESS

.         “Berkshire Hathaway”      2 Signs
                         238B Main Street, Map 37/Lot 133
                         Central Business B-1 District
                         Applicant:  David McDowell     Owner:  Main Street Realty, LLC
        
David McDowell of Sign Professionals presented. This is an application to install a wall sign utilizing custom, 6” plastic, horizontal letters.

The 6” x 28’ 8” wall sign will read, “The Berkshire Hathaway Home Services / New England Properties”.  The applicant also requests a window sign which will be 17.7/8” x 20”.  The applicant proposes install twelve, 8”x 8” etched window logos.

MOTION to recommend approval as presented “Berkshire Hathaway” 2 signs, 238 Main Street, Map 37/Lot 133, Central Business B-1 District. MADE by T. Brodeur; SECONDED by S. Missel; OPPOSED; None ABSTAINED: None; APPROVED by T. Brodeur, A. Yust, S. Missel and B. Akin; (4-0-0).

B.                   “100 Main Street”     1 Freestanding Sign
                  100 Main Street, Map 37:Lot 101
                  Central Business B-1 District
                         Applicant/ Owner:  Donald J. Charbonnier

Donald Charbonnier presented on behalf of this application.  Mr. Charbonnier stated that the new sign represents two new tenants, Caldwell Banker and New Age Psychic.  The face of the sign currently displays “Design Essence Interior Design Inc., and Retail Studio,” and the applicant would like to add the two new businesses. There will be no change to the size of the sign.  The signs are internally lit.  Mr. Charbonnier stated that the lights will be on a timer.

MOTION to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 p.m. to the next regularly scheduled meeting of the ARB to be held on Monday, October 16, 2013 at the Old Saybrook Town Hall, 2nd floor conference room, 302 Main Street at 7:30 p.m.; MADE by S.
