Section 64, Design Standards for Signs has been reformatted. Section 9 Definitions has incorporated and consolidated all of the definitions for Sign standards to this section. Any italicized language noted in the index can be found in Section 9.
Discussion on Section 64.4.7 Window Signs: Mr. Brodeur suggested capping the size of window signs and suggested various percentage ratios to square footage of the glassed area. A discussion ensued.
Ms. Costa summarized the ARB’s recommendations to the Zoning Commission for Section 64.4.7
- 64.7.4A – No internal illumination, the lesser of 25% maximum total of window or 50 s.f. maximum size per window sign.
- 64.7.2B- Internal illumination, the lesser of 10% maximum total of window or 10 s.f. maximum size per window sign.
- 64.4.7 C- Combination, the lesser of 20% maximum total of window
No illumination 15% of window or 25 s.f. maximum.
Illumination 5% of window or 5 s.f. maximum;
MOTION to recommend a favorable approval to the Zoning Regulations for the Petition to Amend Section 64 Signs, Section 9 Definitions and Section 11 Prohibitions with the following recommendations:
The ARB finds that Section 64.7 Window Signs permits signs that are too large for most windows and encourages sign clutter. The ARB strongly recommends that the Zoning Commission reduce the maximum sizes permitted for window signs. The suggestions in this recommendation are the maximum tolerances of the ARB and the Zoning Commission may want to consider reducing these further.
