III. OLD BUSINESS
VI. NEW BUSINESS
A. Saybrook Stone, LLC” Signs
71 Mill Rock Road East (Map 42/Lot 34)
Business B-4 District
~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ Applicant/Agent: ~David White
David White, co-owner of Saybrook Stone, LLC appeared before the Board to explain that he is using the existing signs currently on the building. He will be painting the signs grey and adding blue and black vinyl lettering. The signs are not currently illuminated. There are two flood lights located on either side of the sign on the side of the building which are used to illuminate the parking area. Mr. Gibbs suggested that the top, crown portion, of the sign on the side of the building could be reduced to give more clearance to the adjacent windows and not look so top heavy.
MOTION to recommend approval of the signs with the recommendation that the profile of the curved cap on the top of the side sign be reduced to increase the clearance to the adjacent windows and shutters. MOVED by J. Gibbs; SECONDED by K. Snow
IN FAVOR: D. Wight, K. Snow, G. Pendleton, J. Gibbs; OPPOSED: none. ABSTAINED: none. APPROVED: 4-0-0.
B. “J.C. Tonnotti Window Company” Sign
1712 Boston Post Road (Map 25/Lot 2)
Business B-4 District
~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ Applicant/Agent: ~Joe Tonnotti
Mr. Tyler Spotts, a representative of J.C. Tonnotti Window Co., appeared before the Board to discuss the approval of the 3’ x 8’ illuminated sign. The sign will be located below the windows on the front of the building because there is no other space wide enough for a sign. The sign design is a white background with red and black lettering. The Board explained to Mr. Spotts that an illuminated sign with a white background produces glare for motorists and is not easy to read. The back ground should be an alternate color or do not illuminate the sign. Mr. Spotts said he would suggest a grey background to the owner. The illumination on the signs as presented is using 3 lamps. Mr. Snow suggested using 2 lamps to save money and soften the illumination with F96-T12-6500K
lamps.
MOTION to recommend approval of the sign with the stipulations that the sign background be a medium grey (50% grayscale); 2 lamps F96-T12-6500K for illumination; and that the top of the sign be placed 4-5 inches below the bottom window trim and centered on the window. MOVED by K. Snow; SECONDED by J. Gibbs;
IN FAVOR: D. Wight, K. Snow, G. Pendleton, J. Gibbs; OPPOSED: none. ABSTAINED: none. APPROVED: 4-0-0.
V. REGULAR BUSINESS
A. Meeting Minutes – December 14, 2009
J. Gibbs would like the following added to the minutes for Between the Bridges, LLC:
Maximize public access to the water and view thereof. Clarify on the drawings where pubic access is allowed and how public and private areas will be delineated. All walls, gates and fencing should be integrated in the landscaping plan and be approved. Specifically, looking for plans on the path to the public gazebo where delineation could be by terracing the pathway and adding a 2 ft wall. Also need to see plans for screening of parking areas and garages.
MOTION to approve the minutes of December 14, 2009 with changes.
MOVED by D. Wight; SECONDED by J. Gibbs; IN FAVOR: D. Wight, J. Gibbs, K. Snow, A. Claffey, G. Pendleton; OPPOSED: none. ABSTAINED: E. Swenson APPROVED: 5-0-1.
