The Budget:
The Vinal is very close to budget, the oil tank problem cost us $300,000.00 to begin with. Now we are even but we expect a few change orders.
The Middle School, we are confident we are on or ahead of budget.
The High School at this point we are ahead of budget, but we are only half way there.
The Cole School we originally estimated the cost to be 6.8 Million dollars, however that was three years ago. The low bid came in at 8.2 Million dollars. We believe we have sufficient money in the budget to meet that bid. The Construction Company, G&R Construction, known to Norwell, having built the new Fire Station. We expect construction to begin in the Fall, estimating completion the end of the year 2002.
Mr. Merritt asked Mr. Gordon if he could explain how money was added to the budget.
Mr. Gordon said there are 4 sources:
1. Inventory of all furniture in the schools, there was more than we could re-use. So money was taken out of the furniture budget and moved to Cole School.
2. The Technology budget has been reduced due to a number of very generous citizens donating computers.
3. Additional money for consulting services is not needed so that can be put into the Cole budget.
4. Changes at the High School, instead of doing a total re-hab of the locker room, we are doing a renovation of the locker room using some original equipment.
Mr. Merritt stated the Board is in favor of awarding the Cole bid.
Mr. Mariano thanked Mr. Gordon and Mr. Joseph for their hard work.
