Norwell Board of Selectmen’s Meeting
June 27, 2001
Mr. Merritt opened the Board of Selectmen’s meeting, introducing John Mariano and Peg Renaud Cantwell, Assistant Town Administrator. Jim Boudreau is on vacation and Paul Gaynor was unable to be present.
John Mariano said he would like to add and Item of Interest to the agenda and discuss the July 4th Road Race.
MOTION: Mr. Mariano moved the Board approve the agenda as amended. Second by Mr. Merritt.

MOTION: John Mariano moved the Board approve a request from Franklin Road residents to hold their annual block party on Saturday, July 7, 2001 from 10:00 AM to dusk. Second by Mr. Merritt.

MOTION: Mr. Mariano moved the Board approve a request from the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra for a one-day license to serve all alcoholic beverages at an event to be held at the Cushing Center on Saturday, November 3, 2001 between the hours of 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM, with the stipulation we receive a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Norwell as additional insured. Second by Mr. Merritt.

MOTION: Mr. Mariano moved the Board approve a request from Barry Cowgill for a one-day license to serve all alcoholic beverages at an event to be held at the Cushing Center on Saturday, August 18, 2001 between the hours of 4:00 PM and 9:30 PM. Second by Mr. Merritt.

MOTION: Mr. Mariano moved the Board approve a request from the Norwell Water Department for a Road Opening Permit to install a new 2” meter pit at the property line of 790 Main Street. A 3’ x 5’ road cut will be needed inside the fog line. Dig safe #20012206167. Second by Mr. Merritt.

MOTION: Mr. Mariano moved the Board approve a request from RAM Environmental for a Road Opening Permit to conduct 4 soil borings on south side of 724 Main Street for HEJ Corporation. Two inch diameter boring cuts will be needed. Dig safe #20011700805 and #20011700831. Second by Mr. Merritt.

As an Item of Interest Mr. Merritt mentioned the 4th of July Road Race, which has been run since 1976. It will be held at 8:30 that morning. Dick Elliott has volunteered to help. The fee is $5.00, a minimum to cover costs. Anyone who wishes to volunteer help run the road race is urged to call either John or Rick or the Selectmen’s office.
MOTION: Mr. Mariano moved the Board adjourn. Second by Mr. Merritt.
