Board of Selectmen Meeting 1-31-01
Norwell Board of Selectmen’s Meeting
January 31, 2001

The Board discussed the hiring of an Engineer to determine the feasibility of saving a portion of the Goldman School building at the request of the Sparrell Re-use Committee.

Mr. Merritt wanted to know if the money ear-marked to tear it down could be used for another purpose if that was the case.  The Board thinks it can.

John Mariano suggested doing the high school road over.

Jim Boudreau has asked Ralph Gordon for a list of options that can be cut out that the School Department, Board of Selectmen and Advisory Board can take a look at.  He thinks considering the passion the town has for the building, it would be worth spending the few thousand dollars to explore the options.

MOTION: Mr. Merritt moved the Board authorize the Town Administrator to hire an Engineer to look at the Goldman School to determine the viability of saving a portion of the school for general municipal use (up to the sum of $7,500.).  Second by Mr. Mariano.

Unanimously Voted.

Next on the agenda was Budget Discussions among the Board members.

MOTION: Mr. Merritt moved the Board adopt the agenda as written with Executive Session at the end to discuss pending litigation.  Second by Mr. Mariano.

MOTION: Mr. Merritt moved the Board approve a request from the Silent Chef  for a one-day license to sell Wines & Malt only at an event to be held at the South Shore Natural Science Center on Friday, March 2, 2001 between the hours of 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  Second by Mr. Mariano.

Unanimously Voted.

The Board made note that The Greater Boston Police Council and The Hingham Police Department are presenting a free Internet Crime Training Session on How to Prevent and Protect Children From Being the Victims of Crimes Committed Over the Internet on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM at the Hingham Town Hall in the Sanborn Auditorium.
