Board of Selectmen's Meeting Minutes
May 1, 2002

Mr. Mariano opened the meeting and introduced the Board members and Jim Boudreau, Town Administrator.  

MOTION: Mr. Gaynor moved the Board approve the agenda as written.  Second by Mr. Merritt.

Unanimously Voted.

At 7:30 PM, Mr. Mariano introduced John Micek, Chairman of the Traffic Study Committee for an update.

Mr. Micek and Robert Foulsham were present and stated that  the Traffic Study Committee deals first with safety, traffic flow, and other issues such as stop signs.

Paul Gaynor added working with the Master Plan and traffic issues is a great plan.  
The Chief has given us a list of the top accident spots.
Duncan Drive bridge and parking needs to be addressed
Queen Anne's Corner is a prime flow issue.  An hour glass effect.  
There will be an impact to Norwell by the Greenbush Line.  
Funding for 123 is still pending.
Phone calls and correspondence should be forwarded to the Traffic Study Committee.

New Business

The Board had to vote on and make recommendations on 34 Annual Town Meeting Articles and 4 Special Town Meeting Articles.

Items of Interest

1.      The Norwell Highway Department will begin work on High St., Oak St. and Parker St.

2.      School Building Assistance

The State Legislature, Rep. Nyman has filed an amendment to the state budget restoring funding for the SBA program to FY2002 levels ($34million).  This funds the Norwell Middle School in 2003 and puts the Vinal # 1 in 2004.  As of yesterday, he had 25 co-sponsors for the amendment.  The House budget zeros out the account for FY2003.  

MOTION: Mr. Gaynor moved the Board adjourn to Executive Session for the purpose of discussing Contracts not to resume to Open Session.  Second by Mr. Merritt.

Mr. Mariano polled the Board; Mr. Gaynor; Mr. Merritt; yes, Mr. Mariano; yes.
