Call to Order –Meeting was called to order at 6:20 PM with Commissioners Taylor, Condon, and Rusich present.  Also in attendance was Director John Hines and Summer Playground Director Holly McCord.
Public Comments and Questions-Positive comments about Egg Hunt.  Several people commented on new areas for Hunt, for different age groups.
Minutes-April, 2011—A motion was made by Commissioner Taylor and seconded by Commissioner Rusich to approve the minutes of April 4, 2011, carrying.
Correspondence-Thank you notes and Baskets to Dunkin Donuts and their Managers. A thank you note and gift certificate to Shella Peel our faithful Easter Bunny
Financial Report-Check on account 16.04 for June’s meeting.
Old Business
  • Waiting for Board of Finance approval to release money in order to begin demolition of Tennis Court-Special Town Meeting on May 9, 2011 for Additional Appropriation for expenditure of grant funds.
  • Vacancies for Summer Playground Program have been announce in upcoming Summer Flyer and noted on North Stonington Website.
  • Holly McCord will be in attendance at our meeting.  She will present her ideas for Summer Playground (Kiddie Camp).  She also will be present and part of the process for hiring new Summer staff.  Holly McCord noted that Kiddie Camp’s organization and Structure will remain basically the same due to previous years’ success.  Playground Camp has some changes and more structure and choices for children.  Holly discussed some of her ideas, and the Commission was impressed with her ideas and her enthusiasm.  
New Business
  • Recap of Easter Egg Hunt, new ideas, changes for 2012 Hunt.-No discussion
  • Update of what materials were found when Town dug test holes in the Tennis Court floor.  It was found that there was nothing of interest just basic gravel and fill according to DPW Foreman Steve Holliday.
  • Discuss procedures for Summer staff hiring and set interview dates and times for staff hiring.  May 18, 2011, 5:45 PM @ Holly Green Probate Court, 15 minutes intervals. It was decided to hire four new junior councilors, Mr. Hines requested that the Commissioners devise new questions for interviews.  It was also mentioned that cell phone use and texting during work will not be allowed.
Any New Business brought forth by the Commission Members-
A Wheeler High School student will be doing ten hours of community services at the Rec Area, including clean the Shack, raking and cleaning grounds and any other tasks required.
It was decided to send a sympathy card to the Sayles’ family, and make a $25 donation to the families choice of charity.  Commissioner Taylor will be asking about a bench at the Rec Fields in honor of Mrs. Sayles and her contribution to recreation in North Stonington.  This will be discussed at the June Recreation Meeting.
Adjournment-A motion was made to adjourn at 7:25 PM by Commissioner Rusich and seconded by Commissioner Taylor, carrying.
