Recreation Commission Minutes 09/08/2008

September 8, 2008

Call to Order (Walley) @ 6:35 PM
Attendance: Walley, Rusich, Congdon, and Hines

First meeting since summer hiatus.  No previous minutes

Old Business:

-         Discussed trash can outside the basketball court.  Possibly chain one to the fence to avoid theft.
-         Discussion of summer programming. About 20 kids participated in the Milltown games.  The day was extremely hot.  A different time of the summer may be better for these games in the future.  The Summer playground were about the same as the previous year.  One concern:  Should kids be able to attend less than the full week due to summer school?  Decided that they should still pay for the week if this occurs.  The payment should not be pro-rated for the week.

New Business:

-         Ted Congdon will be doing the soccer program for the fall.  The program is reportedly going very well.  The numbers are good.  40 Cosmos (4 teams of 10), 3 bantam teams.  The kids are excited about the jerseys this year as they replicate the jerseys of various countries.
-         John Hines asked the commissioners to come to the next meeting with ideas for programming in October.  An e-mail should be sent to Hines a week prior to the meeting to get it on the agenda.
-         We will discuss idea of a track at the recreation area at the next meeting with the full group.
-         Budget was reviewed with no concerns.
-         Congdon requested approval for cone sets for soccer program for running drills.  Estimated $50 per set.  Rusich made motion to approve $75 to spend on cones and carriers for soccer program.  Walley second.  Motion approved.

Motion to adjourn at 7:50 PM by Congdon.  Rusich second.
